Glenn Gaddum Jr. is a Dutch bassist, composer, arranger and educator based in Amsterdam.
Music has played an important role in Glenn’s life from an early age. He grew up in Amsterdam in a family where music was a natural part of everyday life. His father, Glenn Gaddum Sr., is a jazz pianist, composer and producer, so music was always present at home.
Glenn began playing professionally while still in his teens. Together with his sister Patty Lou, he was a member of The Mindmenders, with whom they won both the Amsterdam Pop Prize and De Grote Prijs van Nederland, one of the Netherlands’ leading national music competitions.
Glenn studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, graduating summa cum laude. Since then, he has worked as a bassist across a wide range of musical styles and settings, from jazz, funk and soul to pop, rock and hip-hop.
Over the years, Glenn has had the opportunity to perform and record with many different musicians and artists, including Anouk, Matt Simons, Frank McComb, Alain Clark, Sven Hammond, Martin Garrix, Kris Bowers and the Dominic J Marshall Trio, among others.
For Glenn, playing bass is above all about listening and connecting. He enjoys working with different artists, musicians and styles, and discovering what each song or performance needs.
Alongside his work as a performing musician, Glenn teaches at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He shares his experience with young musicians and helps them develop their own musical voice.
Glenn has also collaborated with De Gier Guitars & Basses on the development of his own signature BeBop bass. The instrument was shaped around his experience as a player, with particular attention to tone, feel and playability.
